St. Jude ELM COVID-19/ Illness Policy 2020/21

Children and staff should stay at home if they have a fever of 100.4 degrees or higher and/exhibit TWO or more of the following symptoms. Parents are expected to screen their children before coming to school and keep them home if they are ill. 

  • uncontrollable cough

  • Shortness of breath/difficulty breathing

  • Sore throat

  • Chills

  • Muscle or body aches

  • New loss of taste/smell

  • Diarrhea

  • Nausea or vomiting

If we have a doctor’s note or signed medical plan on file that says one of the above symptoms is typical for the children due to another health condition, we can allow the children to remain at school unless additional symptoms or fever develop.

 

In the event that a child or staff member is excluded with COVID-19 symptoms….

 

UNTESTED WITH ALTERNATE EXPLANATION

(Strep, influenza, ear infection, pink eye, etc., as determined by a physician)

May return to school:

  • After 24 hours fever-free without fever reducing medication 

AND

  • Note from the physician stating the child has an alternate diagnosis and the physician believes it is appropriate for the child to return to school.

 

UNTESTED WITHOUT ALTERNATE EXPLANATION

  • Must remain at home for at least 10 days from the first day symptoms have appeared.

AND

  • 72 hours fever-free without fever reducing medication

 

NEGATIVE  COVID TEST WITH ALTERNATE EXPLANATION

May return to school:

  • After 24 hours fever-free without fever reducing medication

AND

  • Note from the physician stating the child has an alternate diagnosis and the physician believes it is appropriate for the child to return to school.

 

NEGATIVE COVID TEST WITHOUT ALTERNATE EXPLANATION

May return to school:

  • When symptoms have improved, including no fever and no fever-reducing medication for 72 hours

  • At least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared

  • Child has been released by a health care provider to return to school (documentation required)

 

POSITIVE COVID TEST- SYMPTOMATIC

May return to school:

  • When symptoms have improved, including no fever and no fever-reducing medication for 72 hours

  • At least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared

OR

  • Have received two negative tests at least 24 hours apart

 

POSITIVE COVID TEST-ASYMPTOMATIC

May return to school:

  • At least 10 days have passed since positive test result

AND

  • Child has been released by a heath care provider to return to school ( documentation required).
